The Tale of Prancer

Every year I write a holiday story for ProjectManagement.com, and every year I wonder how I am going to come up with something different, interesting and (hopefully) entertaining to celebrate the holiday season. This year I got lucky: A significant event occurred at the North Pole and it was horribly under-reported, so I want to set the record straight.

This year, in a stunning turn of events, Prancer became the first member of Santa’s workshop to gain the PMP® certification. He also became the first hoofed member of the PMP community and one of only a few members north of the Arctic Circle (hello to the rest of you). So, in this year’s story I want to turn the spotlight where it should be: on Santa’s project manager. Without any further ado…ladies and gentlemen, boy and girls…please sit back and relax while I tell you the story of Prancer….

Prancer stepped back and turned his head slightly to one side. He looked at the PMP certificate that he had just finished hanging on his office wall and his chest swelled with pride at what he had achieved. “That has to be a world first,” he thought. “There can’t possibly be another reindeer on this planet that has ever managed to put a picture hook in the wall.”

Prancer couldn’t rest on his laurels though, and there were a couple of reasons for that. …
