Do You VRMS?

Are you a member of PMI? Great! Have you registered for VRMS then? Why not? Chances are it’s because you have never heard of VRMS. It’s not an aspect of PMI membership that gets a lot of coverage, and I’m fairly certain that I have never mentioned it before despite having close to 1,000 different contributions here at ProjectManagement.com alone.

VRMS stands for the Volunteer Relationship Management System and is essentially a database of volunteer opportunities for PMI members within PMI and its chapters. You can learn more about volunteering with PMI here, and that page also has a link to register for VRMS and create a profile.

I know…there are a lot of demands on your time, and it’s not like work is simply a Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. commitment. So why should you take the trouble to volunteer? Well, take a look at VRMS and you’ll likely find that the opportunities available are very different from what you are expecting.

For a start, you can limit yourself to search just for virtual volunteering opportunities. Sure, there are plenty of in-person opportunities as well, but volunteering doesn’t have to be a commitment of large blocks of time on someone else’s schedule; there are options that you can tailor for your needs.
