Applying Global PM Principles During Pandemic Management

The world is in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic, with more than 200 countries and territories involved. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic in March 2020, and it remains a fast-evolving situation that poses a challenge to standardize operational decisions.
The pandemic impacts multiple levels with uncertain implications. The surge on the healthcare system has caused an overflow in intensive care units, a shortage of healthcare workers (doctors, nurses and paramedical staff) and a disruption of the supply chain—leading to a shortfall of essential drugs and medical equipment (including ventilators, respirators and virus testing kits) as the pressure mounts for effective vaccine development. As a result, global leaders have called for immediate and coordinated steps to tackle the emerging global health and economic situation.
