Does a Kinder, More Compassionate Corporate Culture Await?
2020 is going to be defined as the year of the pandemic. It’s not anything like we hoped for when we celebrated the New Year just a few short months back, and it’s changed virtually every aspect of our life. It’s created fear, uncertainty and a multitude of other emotions—and that’s without even considering the impact on those touched directly by this terrible illness.
But I can’t help thinking that perhaps even this cloud has a silver lining. Maybe I’m naïve, but I see some evidence that people are changing, that they are becoming a little more community minded and caring for those in society who are making sacrifices. Maybe that will only last through this period of social distancing, but maybe, just maybe, things are changing for the better permanently.
I’m not going to try and write something deep and meaningful about society in general; that’s not my job here (and frankly I couldn’t do it justice, so I’ll leave that to greater minds than me). But I do want to look at that idea through the lens of our employers and consider whether corporate culture is changing—and if so, how that might help us all in the future. I would love to hear your experiences and opinions in the comments.
I’m not sure “corporate culture” is quite the right term; I think it’s bigger than that
