How AI Will Change Project Management
Artificial intelligence has had unusual development. While most technological advancements in recent years have exploded into the mainstream remarkably quickly, AI as a concept has been around for a long time without ever being “real.” Even today, the reality of AI can be disappointing for those who grew up with the promise of true artificial intelligence that was going to revolutionize every aspect of how people lived.
But AI is now becoming a reality, and while it may not be the revolution that was once envisaged, it is going to have a profound impact on how we work. I firmly believe that project management will be impacted more than many other areas, and I think that’s a very good thing. AI will become a valuable tool for project managers to leverage, improving the quality of project management and freeing up PMs to focus on areas where we need people to add value.
Reducing uncertainty
The biggest benefit I see from AI is the ability to reduce uncertainty in many areas of project planning and management. Risk management is an obvious example. With traditional risk management approaches, we not only rely on individuals at multiple points of the process, we require those individuals to make realistic assessments of things where very little information is known:
