IT Jobs 2018: Demand Stays Steady

Since 2016, the IT job market seems to be alive and well—at least for those with the right credentials and experience. And yes, as in the past, the U.S. coastal cities have the richest supply of high-paying IT jobs. It’s all good news, a sentiment echoed by the salary surveys and studies. For example, Spiceworks “The 2018 State of IT” reports that most companies with over 500 employees will be increasing their IT staffs and IT salaries, mostly due to growth and increased profit expectations.

With growing demand for IT talent comes competition for that talent. This usually means a lot of IT pros will be changing employers as they seek to find better pay and/or to pursue career growth opportunities (about a third, according to Spiceworks).

Modis’ 2018 research on IT salaries echoes the findings of Spiceworks as it predicts 2018 salaries to be on the rise for the top tech jobs. In fact, Modis sees growth in IT jobs and pay through 2024. Modis projects that job growth in IT will be almost double that of other industries, with over 480,000 jobs being added between 2018 and 2024.
