Be Part of the Transition: From Growth Orientation to Value Orientation
You will see your organization move from a growth orientation—where increased revenues are expected, many projects can be run and new resources added relatively freely—to a value orientation, where profitability is gained from increased productivity and lower costs. In value orientation, projects are limited to those that are most likely to reduce costs. The projects must themselves be run lean, with fewer resources allowed to get work done.

Make sure you work toward advanced resource management and budget/financial management skills. Use these tactics when there are more restrictions on resources:

  • Design additional duration for project tasks into your work schedules as resources across projects will be working more hours on more projects—and thus more likely to experience conflicts or hit “the wall.”
