PMI highlights the project management strengths of our three PMO finalists, who all offer insights into how they benefit from emerging trends.

In an age of extreme flux, no organization can afford to remain static. It must continuously evolve—changing with shifts in business and in how we work. And so, too, must the PMO. How? Agile, according to leaders at PMO Symposium.

“Right now, the buzzword is agile,” says Kimberly McLane, director, enterprise program management at Fannie Mae, Washington, D.C. “Everything is agile.”

But agile is more than an approach for the 2019 PMO of the Year winner. “It’s really a mindset,” she says. “It’s about making sure that you are delivering in a quick, efficient way. In project management, people view it as not being aligned, but it really is because it’s about planning. Planning is how we deliver effectively.”

Case in point: Today, more than 90 percent of Fannie Mae’s projects are completed using agile, and over the last three years the enterprise PMO has increased releases by more than 160 percent—while slashing incidents by more than 65 percent.

Agile is also the norm for the PMO of the Year finalists.
