It’s 2018, and technology is still in constant change with the emergence of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, biotechnology and more. You need to ask yourself these pertinent questions if you don’t want to become obsolete:
- Where will I be as a project manager in 10 years?
- Will my skills be relevant in the coming years?
- How do I remain relevant as a project manager?
The world is rapidly changing, and if your skills are not sharpened in the near future, you will be part of the history of replaced technology. I don’t see project management being replaced by build technology—but I can see project managers being replaced due to skill set and knowledge deficiencies.
1. Where will I be as a project manager in 10 years? The change is coming faster than expected, and you must be prepared. What do you want to be doing? Where do you want to be as a project manager? What kind of projects do you want to be managing? All of these will determine what you will prepare for—and how you will prepare for it.
2. Will my skills be relevant in the coming years? Your current skills might not be relevant in the coming years, so you need to begin to build and develop them—or add additional ones that will be needed (especially in technology).
