I seem like I am constantly facing problems that have no easy or ideal solutions. Since I work in an environment with only myself as a project manager, I have no colleagues I can ask for advice. How can I stop second-guessing myself regarding whether or not I am making good decisions for how to move forward in bad situations?
A. With the advent of the internet, no one is truly alone or without solutions. Perhaps you should find places that tell of how others have chosen to deal with similar situations and compare their choices to yours. You might gain confidence in your abilities to make the best of a bad situation. Look for sites and people who might have the most background, certifications and experience in your field.
B. There are no perfect projects or perfect choices in stressful situations. Your best choice is to pick out the most powerful person in your organization who is involved with this project. Do what he or she wants. The project may fail miserably, but at least you will have a job because you supported the right person, even if that person was wrong.
